Zara F1
Zara F1 is a determinate hybrid tomato variety known for its robust growth and excellent performance in open field cultivation. It features a strong, vigorous plant with dense foliage cover, making it well-suited for commercial production. This variety exhibits early to medium maturity, producing oval-shaped fruits weighing an average of 120 – 130 grams. The tomatoes are characterized by their firm texture, vibrant red color, and extended shelf life, making them ideal for both local markets and transportation over longer distances.
Features
- Zara F1 plants are vigorous and sturdy, providing ample foliage cover that supports fruit development and protects against environmental stressors.
- The tomatoes are oval-shaped, with smooth skin and no green shoulders, ensuring uniform appearance and market appeal. They have a very firm texture, which contributes to their excellent shelf life and suitability for transport.
- Known for its high yield potential, Zara F1 exhibits concentrated flowering and fruit set. Each cluster typically yields six to seven fruits, and under optimal agronomic practices, it can yield between 25 to 30 tonnes per acre over a harvesting period of up to 10 weeks.
- It demonstrates strong tolerance to bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum) and intermediate resistance to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV), Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), Fusarium wilt races 1 and 2 (Fol 1&2), and Bacterial Wilt (BW). This resistance profile enhances plant health and reduces yield losses due to common tomato diseases.
Application
- Start Zara F1 seeds indoors approximately 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Transplant seedlings into well-prepared, fertile soil after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them according to recommended guidelines to facilitate optimal growth and yield.
- Plant in full sun in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Maintain consistent moisture levels and provide support for the plants as they develop.
- Apply balanced fertilizer or compost to promote healthy plant growth and maximize fruit production. Monitor soil nutrient levels and adjust fertilization based on plant needs and growth stage.
Storage
- Pick tomatoes when they reach full maturity and desired ripeness. Store harvested fruits in a cool, dry place with good ventilation to prolong shelf life and maintain quality.
- Store Zara F1 seeds in a cool, dry place away from moisture and sunlight to preserve seed viability for future planting seasons.
- Monitor plants regularly for signs of pests and diseases. Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and cultural practices such as crop rotation to minimize risks and maintain plant health.
