Gemtrack
Gemtrack is a pheromone-based pest control product specifically designed to monitor and control the population of the diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella), a major pest affecting cruciferous crops such as cabbage, kale, and broccoli. This product is particularly useful for integrated pest management (IPM) strategies in agriculture.
Gemtrack lures contain synthetic pheromones that mimic the natural attractants produced by female diamondback moths. The primary active ingredients include
- Z-11-hexadecenyl acetate
- Z-11-hexadecenal
- Z-11-hexadecen-1-ol
Each lure is designed to release pheromones over a period of at least eight weeks, making them effective for long-term monitoring and trapping.
Usage Instructions
Gemtrack lures should be used with wing traps containing sticky paper.
For optimal results, place traps at a density of one to two per hectare, depending on the field’s topography and crop density.
Check the traps at least twice a week, recording the number of moths caught. This data helps in determining the pest population dynamics and deciding on the necessary interventions.
Typically, an action threshold is set at 5-7 moths per hectare, but this may vary based on specific crops and environmental conditions.
Storage
Store Gemtrack lures in their original, tightly sealed packaging.
Shelf life is up to six months at room temperature and up to two years if refrigerated below 4°C.
Benefits
Targeted Pest Control: Gemtrack specifically attracts diamondback moths, reducing the need for broad-spectrum insecticides and preserving beneficial insects.
The pheromones used are naturally occurring substances with low toxicity, posing no significant risk to humans or non-target organisms.
Gemtrack is suitable for use in both open fields and greenhouses. It is part of a broader range of biopesticides offered by Kenya Biologics, designed to support sustainable and effective agricultural practices.
